Treatment Approaches

Your Story Is Unique—Your Treatment Should Be Too

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) in Youth and Adults for Tics and Tourette's

Dr. Roldan attended a training on how to utilize Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) in Youth and Adults as a way to further support clients with co-morbid OCD.

Research indicates co-morbidity rates anywhere from 10-50% across studies. Most of my experience with tics is in the context of treating OCD, though she is happy to consult with any individuals with Tourette's or Chronic Tic Disorders.

Individual Resiliency Therapy (IRT) and Family Education (FE) for Schizophrenia and Related Disorders

For a few years starting in 2010, Dr. Roldan was part of a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) research study where she learned to provide Individual Resiliency Therapy (IRT) and Family Education (FE) to those experiencing a first episode of psychosis and their families.  She was the first therapist out of 34 sites in 21 states to be certified to provide that treatment as part of the study.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

Dr. Roldan was first introduced to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) during her two years at Baylor College of Medicine, where she led DBT skills training groups. From 2014 to 2015, she participated in a comprehensive DBT team, providing both individual therapy and group-based skills training. While she is not currently part of a formal DBT team, she offers DBT-informed treatment interventions as part of her therapeutic approach.

Family Well Being Consultation (FWBC)

Dr. Roldan has been trained in the Family Well Being Consultation model, which is designed to help the family members or loved ones of an individual with mental illness who either refuses treatment or underutilizes treatment.

Families wishing to see this form of consultation must agree to read "When a Loved One Won't Seek Mental Health Treatment: How to Promote Recovery and Reclaim Your Family's Well-Being" by Dr. Alec Pollard and colleagues.

Psychological Evaluations and Testing

Dr. Roldan is qualified to provide comprehensive psychological testing for a variety of referral questions. Psychological evaluations offer valuable insight into mental health and personality functioning in a relatively short time. This information can help guide treatment planning and often enhances the effectiveness of individual therapy. Although psychological assessment was a significant part of her training, Dr. Roldan currently conducts these evaluations on a very limited basis.
